Maps evolved out of a previous series called Rust Belt Collages.

At the start of 2020, I was reflecting back on the 1920’s. Inspired by the Art Deco details of the German TV series, Babylon Berlin, warm metallic colors started appearing in my work at the top of the year. And in January, I travelled to Palm Springs, CA and Joshua Tree National Park. I was struck by the sunlight and its impact on color. The trip translated into my work in the studio in the use of golden yellows, teal blues, and an array of colors and fragments of painted paper collages that reflected the golden California sunlight.
